On Monday, several Bay Area businesses and street vendors closed in solidarity with "A Day Without Immigrants," a nationwide protest against U.S. immigration policies. The event, moved up this year in response to President Trump's policies, aims to demonstrate the economic contributions of immigrants. Rodrigo Lopez, President of the Mission Street Vendors Association, emphasizes that immigrants play essential roles in society and the economy, highlighting their financial contributions and the need for recognition beyond the negative stigma often associated with them. This annual protest seeks to validate immigrants' dreams and struggles for a better life.
It's not to affect businesses, it's just to prove we have power with our money and we can contribute it to the country's economy.
We play almost the same role like everyone, we pay taxes. We buy houses, we buy cars, we spend money like every single day.
The goal behind this day of action is to highlight the vital role of immigrants in the U.S. economy.
Majority of these immigrants, they are families, they are working to make a living. We're here because we have a dream.
