"Booksellers save lives. Period," Patterson said in a statement on Tuesday, Dec. 10, when he announced his winners. "I'm happy to be able to acknowledge them and all their hard work this holiday season."
"I was really shocked," said Amy Thomas, owner of Pegasus Books, which has three East bay shops. "It was just a very warm feeling."
"I'm really excited," Erin Messer said. "It just feels really good to be recognized by my peers like that."
This year, employees from San Francisco's City Lights Booksellers & Publishers, Marcus Books in Oakland and Pegasus Books are among the nearly 20 Bay Area honorees.
