Auburn standout Johni Broome, considered the frontrunner for National Player of the Year, suffered a left ankle injury during a close win against South Carolina.
Broome's injury occurred when he stepped on a teammate's foot while contesting a shot, prompting immediate concern as he could not put weight on his foot.
Coach Bruce Pearl stated that Broome has a significant ankle sprain and will undergo an MRI to assess potential additional damage, following a previous shoulder injury.
Despite the injury, Broome has been a dominant force in college basketball this season, averaging nearly a double-double with standout performances against top opponents.
