At least two dead as dozens of earthquakes jolt Guatemala

Guatemala experienced over 37 earthquakes and aftershocks ranging from 3.0 to 5.6 magnitudes, with the most significant one recorded at 5.7. The seismic activity led to evacuations, landslides, and minor property damage. Two individuals were killed when rocks fell on their vehicle during the tremors. The main epicenter was identified in Sacatepéquez, affecting surrounding regions including Escuintla and Guatemala. An orange alert was declared, and five people were reported buried by landslides, with some successfully rescued by emergency services.
The tremors resulted in the evacuation of buildings, landslides and minor property damage, officials said, adding they were felt as far away as El Salvador.
Guatemalan President Bernardo Arévalo said at a press conference that the main epicentre of the quakes was in the department of Sacatepéquez, with aftershocks in the regions of Escuintla and Guatemala.
The National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction declared an orange alert, the second-highest on the emergency scale.
At least five people were buried by landslides, but emergency responders were able to rescue two, he added.
