Upon arriving in Cuenca, Ecuador, I felt alone and worried, contemplating whether I should have just returned to Toronto instead. Yet, six years later, I’ve found stability and fulfillment here.
My move to Toronto initially promised vibrant opportunities, but over time the pace and costs became overwhelming. I craved a more balanced, engaging lifestyle similar to what I’d seen in South America.
During my first six months in South America, I was in Colombia until I was unexpectedly kicked out for a visa overstay. This turn of events, coupled with a visit from friends, led me to Cuenca.
Reflecting on my life choices, I realize the importance of seeking environments that nurture rather than drain. Cuenca offers a sense of community and adventure that Toronto lacked for me.
