Weather warnings are in effect across Ireland due to a multi-hazard event, with significant snowfall and freezing rain expected, leading to dangerous icy conditions.
In coming days, temperatures are forecasted to drop to between -8C and -10C, presenting some of the most severe cold weather since Storm Emma in 2018.
Local authorities have been briefed on the weather emergency, anticipating more than 10cm of snowfall in affected areas, especially on higher ground.
Individual school management authorities will decide on potential closures due to the hazardous weather, as conditions are expected to remain severe through the weekend.
