American Airlines is starting to shame passengers who try to board too early
Briefly

American Airlines is deploying technology across over 100 airports this holiday season to catch passengers boarding out of order. Gate agents will be alerted via a scanner when a passenger attempts to board in an earlier group, signified by a special two-tone sound. This system is part of their effort to ensure that travelers board according to their assigned groups, preserving the benefits linked to ticket pricing and AAdvantage status.
Julie Rath, a senior vice president at American Airlines, stated, 'We've heard from our customers that the ability to board with their assigned group is important to them because it's a benefit associated with their AAdvantage status or fare purchase.' This indicates the airline's dedication to addressing consumer feedback regarding boarding processes.
The airline tested the new boarding technology in recent months in select airports, receiving positive reactions from both customers and employees. Following the successful trial in cities like Tucson and Albuquerque, American Airlines is rolling out the system permanently across more than 100 airports this holiday season.
