Cullina National School in Kerry faced an electrical fire, prompting an immediate evacuation of 180 pupils. Principal Leona Twiss commended the emergency services for their rapid response, ensuring no one was harmed. The school will remain closed for thorough electrical evaluations. Twiss praised the pupils for their calmness during evacuation and emphasized the effectiveness of their recent fire drills. Thanks from the principal extended to parents and staff, underlining the community's support amidst the incident. A specific corridor will be closed for about a week as assessments take place.
Today was a challenging day but, thankfully, everyone is safe. The emergency services were phenomenal and responded so quickly to our call.
They calmly evacuated the building and went to their designated spots. It just reinforces the importance of regular fire drills.
I have to act on the advice of the electrical personnel and tomorrow evening I will have a far clearer picture on the extent of the damage.
‘Words cannot adequately express my thanks to everyone who assisted us. My colleagues were amazing and provided excellent care to every child.’
