About 20,000 Comcast customers in Berkeley and beyond lost internet, TV and other services Sunday night after vandals in Richmond cut through multiple lines of fiber optic cables.
Comcast spokesperson Jon Koriel wrote in an email Monday that yesterday's vandalism incident is one of several occurrences that has happened this year.
Koriel said he couldn't say exactly where in Richmond the vandalism occurred for safety reasons. Comcast technicians were on site for most of the day and began working immediately to restore services.
Richmond police said they would investigate any leads but no copper was reported stolen, indicating a possible motive beyond traditional theft.
