A 'spite house' said to have been built by a man for his ex became an icon. Now it's the center of a demolition battle.

Locals have rallied to save the Pink House, which has represented a good day at the beach for nearly a century, highlighting its historic significance.

"If you see the Empire State Building or the Golden Gate Bridge, you know where you are, right? For the North Shore of Massachusetts, that's what this is," said Rochelle Joseph, president of Support The Pink House.

The US Fish and Wildlife Service plans to demolish the Pink House to restore the land for wildlife, but residents are fighting to preserve its history.

Having been built in 1925, the Pink House serves as a 'spite house,' adding a unique historical narrative that locals believe is worth preserving.
