'A Silvertown tunnel lorry lane is bonkers - they could do better for Greenwich'
Briefly

The Silvertown Tunnel opens on April 7, allowing larger HGVs to cross the Thames for a toll. While TfL does not expect an increase in lorry usage, local residents express concerns about worsened air quality from more HGVs and detour traffic. Residents argue that the tunnel is unnecessary during a climate emergency, with fears over pollution impacts, especially particulate matter not being monitored. Campaigners question the sufficiency of TfL's focus on nitrogen oxide levels instead of broader particulate pollution, warning of health implications for nearby schools and communities.
Victoria Rance, who lives close to the A102 in Greenwich, told the News Shopper that opening the new road link during the climate emergency was a bonkers idea.
Karin Tearle, another Greenwich resident who has campaigned against the Silvertown tunnel, added that TfL had only committed to monitoring nitrogen oxide (NO2) in the area, and not dangerous particulates (PM 2.5).
