John Marquez, chef and owner of Lima Restaurant, stated, 'We simply can't bounce back after settling a lawsuit over our Ladies' Night promotion, which we thought was harmless.'
According to Rebecca Nieman, a professor of business law, 'A lot of these small mom-and-pop-type bars honestly might not know about this law, which is why you see these lawsuits still happening.'
Most gender discrimination lawsuits against small businesses are settled out of court, as battling these claims is financially challenging for small restaurateurs with thin margins.
