"I was looking for a wreck, and it was a wreck," said their son-in-law, Wids DeLaCour Jr., reflecting on the initial state of the house at 27 State Street.
DeLaCour noted how he was inspired by clean lines from his professor, and aimed to bring light and natural materials into the design of their new home.
Margaret asked for a kitchen off the garden, which DeLaCour called a big improvement in the design, highlighting the importance of blending indoor and outdoor living.
Although some architect friends remarked that the finished house wasn't 'very urban,' DeLaCour emphasized his intent for the house to be a respite and retreat.
