The decision to use drones for New Year's Eve light shows in Central Park and Prospect Park reflects a growing trend to prioritize safety and environmental considerations over traditional fireworks displays.
"We didn’t want to risk a stray spark from fireworks doing more damage on New Year’s Eve," stated Morgan Monaco, emphasizing the switch to drones as a safer alternative.
The dryness in the area was so severe that grass and trees served as fuel for a brush fire affecting two acres, contributing to the decision for drone displays.
The illuminated drones will showcase glowing images of iconic landmarks, aiming not just to entertain but to engage the 4,000 runners participating in the New York Road Runners' Midnight Run.
