Former University of Miami football player charged in murder after bar shootout
Briefly

Avontae Williams, a former University of Miami football player, has been charged with second-degree murder following a shooting incident at McCabe's Bar in DeLand, Florida. The shooting occurred after a fistfight broke out inside the bar, resulting in the death of 32-year-old Keshod Harris. Another individual, a bartender, was also injured but not seriously. Williams, 24, has a troubled history, including previous arrests during his time at Miami, leading to his eventual transfer to Maryland for completion of his college career.
Williams was a top safety recruit for the Hurricanes, with whom he signed in 2020. He had a tumultuous time at Miami, missing games because of injuries.
Williams was booked into the Volusia County Jail with no bond Monday on the second-degree murder charge, records show. The shooting left one dead and another injured.
Those injuries were not considered life-threatening; however, the gunman, identified as Williams, faces serious legal repercussions following the deadly incident.
Witnesses told investigators that a fistfight broke out between several men inside the bar. During the altercation, one of the men produced a firearm and began shooting.
