South Beach's food fest had a different vibe when it started. Look at those early days
Briefly

The South Beach Wine & Food Festival began in 1997 as the Florida Extravaganza at Florida International University. It transitioned to South Beach in 2002, gaining recognition alongside prestigious events like the Aspen festival. Festival director Lee Brian Schrager aimed for high standards, and with Food & Wine magazine's involvement, the event looked poised for growth. Initial years blended cooking, celebrity chefs, and wine, establishing the festival as a significant culinary gathering in Miami, appealing to food and wine enthusiasts from all corners.
The first festival at FIU was so under the radar that there is no record of coverage in the Miami Herald archives.
We hope to be on a par with the Aspen festival; no small ambition for the first South Beach Wine & Food Festival.
Grdovic predicts great things as the festival continues to develop, bringing in culinary stars and drawing in bigger crowds.
