A significant brush fire in southern Miami-Dade County engulfed over 26,000 acres before being declared under control by local authorities. The Miami-Dade Fire-Rescue confirmed via social media that, following recent dry and windy weather, the fire was fully contained. Although U.S. 1 and Card Sound Road saw repeated closures due to hazardous smoke, most fire units have resumed regular operations. Meanwhile, the Florida Forest Service continues to monitor and manage remaining hot spots and ensure the fire does not spread further.
On Sunday afternoon, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said most of its units had resumed responding to regular calls though some units would continue to assist the state Forest Service in responding to spot fires.
Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava offered 'congratulations to our heroic first responders for getting the South Dade brush fires under control and protecting our community.'
