A coalition of 27 religious groups, including various denominations, is suing the Trump administration for changing policies that affect immigration enforcement in sensitive areas such as places of worship. The lawsuit, initiated by the Institute for Constitutional Advocacy and Protection at Georgetown Law, claims that the new policy undermines religious freedoms by allowing increased immigration enforcement in churches and schools. Leaders stress that these changes have already started to deter congregants from attending services, thereby adversely impacting their religious practices and community support.
Congregations are experiencing decreases in worship attendance and social service participation due to fears of ICE.
There really is no purpose to rescinding the sensitive locations policy other than to open up places of worship in a way that substantially burdens their religious practice.
