Florida International University (FIU) has revealed plans for CasaCuba, a $40 million academic and cultural center dedicated to Cuban and Cuban-American heritage. The project, planned for nearly a decade, aims to house extensive Cuban archives, including a vast collection of Cuban music. Executive director Lili Betancourt Space emphasized the importance of physical spaces for connection, particularly after the disruptions from COVID-19. The 43,000-square-foot building will feature galleries, classrooms, and event venues designed to integrate both Cuban and American cultural elements, fostering community engagement and honoring displaced stories.

CasaCuba executive director Lili Betancourt Space emphasized the importance of a physical space for engagement, stating, "The students have to be at the center of all that we do here."
