Pulse Just Doesn't Know What to Do With Its #MeToo Storyline
Briefly

Netflix's 'Pulse' brings viewers into the life of a Miami hospital filled with complex scenarios and drama. The series begins with a dramatic bus accident, revealing the immediate challenges faced by Dr. Danny Simms, recently promoted in the shadow of a colleague's suspension. Central to the plot is the #MeToo narrative involving Dr. Xander Phillips, who is accused of sexual harassment. While the show attempts to delve into the repercussions of this complaint, it struggles to balance the weight of such themes with episodic drama, drawing mixed audience reactions.
It's a hell of a first day in this new role for Simms—the school bus incident brings an influx of patients in urgent need, and a hurricane is on the way.
The series opens with a school bus careening off a bridge and plunging into the water below and only gets wilder from there.
Pulse's inclusion of a #MeToo storyline manages to be incisive... and simultaneously a woefully underdeveloped exercise in schlock.
Phillips is far from a seedy creep... he's warm, helpful, a strong leader, and an excellent doctor.
