Nature nurture: the Devon estate where rewilding and mental health go hand in hand
Briefly

The Sharpham estate in Devon, formerly a traditional dairy farm and vineyard, has shifted towards nature restoration over the past five years. This change addresses dual modern issues: a rising mental health crisis and severe biodiversity loss. Under the direction of Julian Carnell, the estate's management seeks to integrate mindfulness practices with ecological conservation, recognizing the importance of reconnecting individuals with nature. The contrasting landscapes along the River Dart illustrate this journey, showcasing an embrace of natural disorder as a remedy for both personal and environmental challenges.

The land on the Sharpham estate side of the River Dart used to be a mirror of the traditional farmscape on the opposite bank.
