Charlotte Chapman-Hart was hospitalized with excruciating pain and weighed six stone, leading to misdiagnosis of an eating disorder. A rare disease caused her symptoms, worsened by unmonitored pain relief medication resulting in rapid weight loss. Charlotte developed PTSD from her traumatic experience while trying to convince healthcare professionals of her truth. Despite chronic pain since age 13 that was dismissed as hormonal issues, she continued to pursue her passion for dancing. Her reliance on her family for care is crucial as she confronts her ongoing health challenges and fears for her future.
"I think the hardest thing I've ever had to face is trying to convince people that I am of sound mind, and that what I'm telling you is the absolute truth," says Charlotte, sitting in the garden of her home in Cuckney in Nottinghamshire. "I told them that I've never had an issue with eating. I'm just not hungry. Things don't taste the same."
Charlotte performed with the English Youth Ballet three times, between the age of eight and 16 after successfully auditioning. "Dancing was my life, I was always known as Charlotte the dancer," she says.
