What residents in Germany need to know about the electronic patient file
Briefly

The electronic patient file, or e-patient file (e-PA), aims to streamline health data management for patients by allowing them to store and share their health information digitally.
Currently, only about one percent of people with statutory health insurance have signed up for the e-PA, highlighting significant challenges in adoption.
Starting January 15, 2025, health insurance companies in Germany will be required to provide an electronic patient file to all statutory insured individuals, barring those who opt out.
Patients are empowered with control over their e-PA through an app, enabling them to choose which documents are visible, block or delete files, contributing to enhanced privacy.
