"Some good news on the weight-loss front: Customers can now go to Costco to get Ozempic and Wegovy, brand-name injectable prescription drugs manufactured by drug maker Novo Nordisk, which contain the same active ingredient: semaglutide. The Danish pharmaceutical firm announced Friday that both are available at the big-box retailer's pharmacies nationwide, for $499 for a month's supply-the same price as sold in CVS, Walmart, and the company's direct-to-consumer website. You'll still need a prescription to buy the drugs."
"Both drugs are similar, but the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved them for two different reasons. Wegovy is approved for chronic weight management, while Ozempic is approved for treating type 2 diabetes, to reduce the risk of cardiovascular health issues including heart attack, stroke, and death. Ozempic is prescribed "off-label" for weight loss. The main difference is that they have different side effects and dosages-and because Wegovy is administered at higher doses, a maximum of doses,"
Costco pharmacies nationwide now offer brand-name semaglutide injections Ozempic and Wegovy for $499 per month's supply, and a prescription is required. Costco provides a 2% discount for executive members and Costco Citibank Visa card holders. Wegovy is FDA-approved for chronic weight management at higher doses (up to 2.4 mg weekly) and typically produces greater weight loss along with increased gastrointestinal side effects. Ozempic is FDA-approved for type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular risk reduction, is often prescribed off-label for weight loss, and is usually dosed around 2 mg weekly. Both drugs are injected once a week. Costco reported Q4 sales growth and a market capitalization of $402.6 billion.
