Scientists Just Found Something Rather Grim That Happens When You Stop Taking GLP-1s
""It takes years to build cardiovascular protection, and takes half as much to undo that," said study author Ziyad Al-Aly, highlighting the rapid reversal of health benefits after stopping GLP-1 drugs."
""The most obvious effect for many people who stop taking GLP-1 drugs is weight regain, as an appetite that once subsided comes roaring back with intensity," according to Al-Aly."
""There’s also a resurgence in inflammation, blood pressure, and cholesterol," Al-Aly noted, emphasizing the broader health implications of discontinuing GLP-1 treatment."
Research indicates that discontinuing GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic can significantly increase cardiovascular risks. A study of over 333,000 adults with diabetes revealed an 18 percent reduction in cardiovascular disease risk for consistent users. However, stopping the medication for six months raised the risk of major cardiovascular events by 8 percent, and by 22 percent after one to two years. Weight regain and increased inflammation, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels were also noted as consequences of stopping treatment.
