I'm 26 and want to be sterilised over pregnancy sickness
""I literally spent the first whole of my first trimester in bed on ice cubes, because I couldn't eat or drink," she said."
""I struggled to shower, my partner would sometimes have to bathe me; I physically could not care for myself.""
""I remember when I found out I literally turned around to my partner and I was like, 'what do we do?'" she said."
""It got to the point that I had an abortion booked for her because I was unable to care for myself and my son and I literally said to my partner I'm worried about my own safety," she said."
Chloe, 26, from Newport experienced hyperemesis gravidarum (HG), a condition causing prolonged severe nausea and vomiting that can last until birth. She was admitted to hospital with dehydration during her first pregnancy and spent much of the first trimester unable to eat or drink, relying on ice cubes and partner support for basic care. Reduced work duties continued until her son’s birth in 2023. An unplanned second pregnancy, inability to take antidepressants, and worsening mental health led her to book an abortion for safety concerns. An ectopic scare prompted a gynaecologist to prescribe Xonvea; access to Xonvea in Wales is limited and calls have been made for better availability. Chloe now views sterilisation as her best option.
