There will be plenty of time for Wales to dissect a difficult night in Astana when they make their eight-hour flight home from Kazakhstan. But when the ultimate destination is USA, Canada and Mexico next summer, the analysis was easy for former captain Ashley Williams. As he put it: "For games like this all that matters is that you get the three points, get on the plane, get home."
Kieffer Moore gave Wales the lead in the 24th minute when he poked home on the rebound after Liam Cullen's header was kept out by Temirlan Anarbekov. Kazakhstan responded well, though, with Galymzhan Kenzhebek curling narrowly wide in the 39th minute before seeing an effort tipped onto the crossbar by Karl Darlow six minutes into the second half. Kenzhebek went close again eight minutes later, and Maxim Samordov was also thwarted by Darlow as the hosts continued to pile on the pressure.
The vandalism appears to be a response to a St George's Cross having been sprayed on the same mini-roundabout in August, which had already been removed by the local council. The two acts of vandalism come as various mini-roundabouts around the country have become the focus for nationalist fervour as part of a controversial campaign to raise the St George's Cross and Union Jack flags around the country.
