Eluned Morgan, the Welsh first minister and leader of the Welsh Labour party, expresses her frustration with UK Labour, urging them to reconsider policy changes crucial to Wales ahead of the Senedd elections. Morgan promotes a leftward shift in Welsh Labour policy to combat competition from Reform UK and Plaid Cymru. She highlights the urgency for both parties to collaborate in addressing public service funding and respect for devolution, likening the Labour party to a messy family that can still unite despite differences.
Weâve got a year to go and Iâm losing patience. They [UK Labour] are very keen for us to promote partnership in power. We are keen to play with them when it comes to partnership in power and itâs already delivered 1.6bn extra for our public services, but itâs not enough and we need to see more from them.
Iâm determined to make a change for the people of Wales and I havenât got much time. I am impatient. I need things done.
We all come from families that are complicated these days and we fall out within our families but weâre still family. We still turn up to each otherâs weddings and funerals but in between there may be a bit of a falling out and thatâs not the end of the world.
What we need is respect for devolution.
