The government has planned to reduce the list of NHS patients waiting over 18 weeks by nearly half a million in the next year, alongside expanding Community Diagnostic Centres.
Sir Keir Starmer stated that the new plan aims to create millions more appointments and 'deliver on our promise to end the backlogs'.
Currently, only 59% of patients meet the NHS target of starting treatment within 18 weeks, with three million waiting longer, and the aim is to reach 65% by March 2026.
Community Diagnostic Centres will extend their hours to provide local access and reduce reliance on hospitals, contributing up to half a million extra appointments annually.
