Gillibrand introduces bill to support soldiers with blast overpressure brain injuries
Briefly

Standing with Wounded Warrior Project veterans, Sen. Gillibrand announced the Blast Overpressure Safety Act. Service members exposed to blast overpressure are at increased risk of debilitating brain injuries like depression, anxiety, and dementia.
The Act would mandate neurocognitive assessments, create exposure logs, enhance transparency in weapons acquisition, and improve data on brain injuries for service members. Gillibrand emphasizes the need for more research and better medical treatment for affected military personnel.
NY State Sen. Jessica Scarcella-Spanton also supports these efforts in addressing traumatic brain injuries among service members. The legislation aims to ensure the safety and well-being of military personnel facing blast overpressure exposure.
The Blast Overpressure Safety Act includes provisions for baseline neurocognitive assessments before training, logs for exposure, transparency in weapons acquisition, and better data on brain injuries for service members.
