"In practice, it's never 100% successful. We aim to remove all breast tissue, but leaving thicker flaps doesn’t mean leaving tissue behind," said Ian Paterson during his evidence.
"There were concerns about residual tissue left behind in mastectomy operations. However, that matter was not discussed in multi-disciplinary team meetings,” Paterson claimed.
Dr Chris Fletcher described working with Paterson as a "nightmare," noting that multi-disciplinary meetings were always challenging due to Paterson’s efforts to dominate discussions.
Paterson attributed delays in biopsy results to staff shortages and leave, impacting timely patient care including for Elaine Turbill.
