According to September waiting list figures, up to 38 children have had their spinal surgery outsourced from Dublin children's hospital to hospitals in the UK and the US. This initiative is part of the effort to reduce waiting times for children with scoliosis.
Families will be booked into either a three-star hotel or serviced apartment and provided with a daily stipend for meals and expenses while they are away. Parents will also receive a prepaid currency card before the trip.
Under an initiative launched during the summer, suitable patients can have surgeries in designated hospitals both within Ireland and abroad to address the long waiting lists for spinal surgery.
