SAG-AFTRA's new influencer committee aims to strengthen support for digital creators
Briefly

SAG-AFTRA has launched a new influencer committee, led by lifestyle influencer Patrick Janelle, to better support the booming influencer economy, which has seen its workforce rise from 200,000 to 1.5 million since 2020. While the union previously introduced an influencer agreement in 2021, it did not cover original creative content vital to many creators. The new committee will engage with voices across major platforms to provide guidance and advocacy, aiming to help creators achieve stable and sustainable careers in a loosely regulated industry.
SAG-AFTRA's new influencer committee is a crucial step in formalizing support and engagement for the fast-growing influencer economy, which lacks structure and regulation.
‘The goal of this committee is to provide the union with necessary guidance and feedback from the creator's perspective,’ said Patrick Janelle.
‘It really became clear that if we're going to continue to expand, we needed to have a formal structure in the union,’ said Duncan Crabtree-Ireland.
SAG-AFTRA's board aims to advocate for all types of content creators and secure stable, sustainable careers in an industry that's rapidly evolving.
