Rachel Maddow Takes On Her Own Network
Briefly

Rachel Maddow publicly criticized MSNBC for its decision to cancel the shows of its only non-white prime-time hosts, Joy Reid and Katie Phang, expressing that the situation is indefensible. Maddow voiced her affection and respect for Reid, who made history as the first Black woman to anchor a prime-time news show on MSNBC. Reid reflected on her emotions regarding the cancellations, ultimately expressing gratitude for her time and team. Amid these changes, new hosts will replace Reid's show as part of the network's adjustments under new leadership.
I will tell you it is also unnerving to see that on a network where we've got two - count them, two - non-white hosts in prime time, both of our non-white hosts in prime time are losing their shows, as is Katie Phang on the weekend. And that feels worse than bad, no matter who replaces them. That feels indefensible, and I do not defend it.
But in all of the jobs I have had in all of the years I have been alive, there is no colleague for whom I have had more affection and more respect than Joy Reid.
I do not want to lose her as a colleague here at MSNBC, and personally, I think it is a bad mistake to let her walk out the door.
From anger, rage, disappointment, hurt, you know, feelings of guilt that I let my team lose their jobs. But in the end, where I really land and where I've landed on today is just gratitude, just pure gratitude.
