In 2023 alone, job losses in the media sector increased by nearly 50 percent, threatening the longevity of established newspapers and highlighting the volatility and precariousness of media employment.
Four solutions are proposed as 'media harm reductions' to address the crisis: mutual aid, media co-ops, journalism nonprofits, and trauma care. Collectively, they form a vital 'dystopian social safety net' for journalists and organizations in need.
