OpenAI claims it abides by fair use and other international copyright principles, but they were trying to license and pay for it, and they just didn't reach an agreement.
If it's valuable enough to train these large language models, it's also worthy of some compensation.
Some hurdles for the news organizations include the fair use defense, which could complicate their claims against OpenAI.
