The organization is producing content that does not attract sufficient audience, and declines cannot be blamed solely on demographics, technology, shortened attention spans, or news avoidance. Plans include adding many more contributors, including writers and podcasters, to diversify and modernize offerings. The editor in chief was appointed by Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison, reports directly to him rather than to CBS News’ president, and has mandate to restructure the nearly century-old network.
