Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios since 2018, is resigning to focus on producing. In an internal memo, Mike Hopkins announced that Salke's role would not be filled as part of a leadership restructuring. Salke's tenure saw significant projects like 'Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power' and 'Fallout'. Despite her achievements, reports suggest that her difficulties collaborating with the producers of the James Bond franchise may have influenced her decision to leave. Moving forward, key studio leaders will report directly to Hopkins.
"As I've been considering my next chapter, I've always been searching for that moment where I was positive that our work had set up Amazon MGM Studios for even more success in the long term," Salke says in the memo. "When I look at the teams we've put in place, our amazing leaders... I realized now is that moment."
However, a separate report from Deadline paints the situation differently, saying Salke's 'inability to mesh with the gatekeepers of the James Bond movies might well have sealed her fate.' Following Amazon's acquisition of MGM, it seems her clashes with producers might have affected her position.
