In May, guidance stated that an ad could trigger above or below AI Overviews or within AI Overviews but not both, and that only broad match would be eligible to trigger an ad within AI Overviews. A later update clarified that the presence of the same keyword in exact match will not prevent the broad match keyword from triggering an ad in an AI Overview. The later guidance states the exact match keyword is not eligible to show ads in AI Overviews and therefore does not compete with broad match for AI Overview ad placements. The timing of the change is unspecified.
