The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has dismissed a lawsuit against PepsiCo that accused the company of favoring Walmart with pricing advantages at the expense of competitors. Former FTC Chair Lina Khan criticized this decision, suggesting it harms consumers and small businesses by allowing giant retailers to raise prices unchecked. The commission, composed entirely of Republican members, voted unanimously to drop the case, which led to criticism from antimonopoly advocates who see this dismissal as a win for large corporations and a setback for fair competition.
"This lawsuit would've protected families from paying higher prices at the grocery store and stopped conduct that squeezes small businesses and communities across America," Khan wrote on X.
"This meritless dismissal is a win for monopolists and billionaires," said Lee Hepner, senior legal counsel at the American Economic Liberties Project.
