Covered California sends residents' personal health data to LinkedIn
Briefly

The investigative site The Markup revealed that Covered California’s website was sending sensitive user data, including medical information, to LinkedIn via tracking tools. This included answers to private health questions and personal circumstances such as being transgender or a possible domestic abuse victim. Covered California has since removed these tracking tools following inquiries, acknowledging that this data sharing began in February 2024. In light of these findings, they stated that protective measures and a review of data privacy protocols are underway to prevent future incidences.

Due to a marketing agency transition, Covered California removed the trackers as part of an effort to safeguard the security and privacy of consumer data.
