TikTok has more than 170 million American users who would be affected, the companies have said, emphasizing potential negative impacts on user engagement and advertising revenue.
In their legal filing, TikTok and ByteDance stated that a shutdown lasting even one month could result in the loss of about a third of their daily users.
The companies also warned that they would face a significant loss in advertising revenue, estimating a 29% drop in total targeted global advertising revenue for next year.
Legal experts suggest that the Supreme Court may consider the novel issues presented by the case, particularly concerning the government’s powers in regulating social media for national security.
