The business grew to employ 12 people and ship across North America through low-cost, direct engagement. Rising costs, tariffs and the Canada Post strike have tightened margins for many small firms. More than half of CFIB’s 100,000 members have fewer than 10 employees. Many businesses are adopting grassroots tactics such as social-media storytelling, community partnerships and guerrilla marketing instead of traditional paid advertising.
