""I like my players fighting each other, if someone didn't do the right action. If you want that toughness and resilience to get a result, you want someone to act on it," Moyes said. "If nothing happened [no red card], I don't think anyone in the stadium would have been surprised. I thought the referee could have taken a bit longer to think about it. I was told that [by] the rules of the game that if you slap your own player, you could be in trouble."
""I'm disappointed we got the sending off. But we've all been footballers, we get angry with our teammates. He's apologised for the sending off, he's praised the players and thanked them for it and apologised.""
""I want to apologise first to my teammate Michael Keane. I want to take full responsibility for my action. I also apologise to my teammates, the staff, the fans and the club. Emotions can run high but nothing justifies such behaviour.""
Idrissa Gueye was sent off 13 minutes into Everton's 1-0 victory over Manchester United after squaring up to and slapping teammate Michael Keane following a misplaced pass. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall scored in the 29th minute to give Everton the lead, and the team defended resolutely to hold out against Manchester United. David Moyes refused to condemn Gueye, saying he values players who confront teammates when the right action is not taken, but expressed disappointment at the sending off. Gueye apologised to Michael Keane, teammates, staff, fans and the club on Instagram and accepted responsibility for his behaviour.
