Dan Altavilla, a 32-year-old right-handed reliever, has signed a minor league contract with the White Sox and will join spring training as a non-roster invitee.
In parts of seven MLB seasons, injuries have plagued Altavilla’s career, limiting him to just 40 major league innings since his productive early seasons with Seattle.
Despite his injury history, Altavilla has a significant talent, shown by his 4.36 ERA and 26% strikeout rate in the majors when healthy.
The White Sox's current bullpen situation leaves opportunities for non-roster invitees like Altavilla to compete for a spot this spring.
