Matt Bowman Opts Out Of Deal With Mariners
Briefly

Reliever Matt Bowman exercised an opt-out clause in his minor league deal with the Mariners, reports Jon Heyman of the New York Post. That sends Bowman back to free agency after being designated by the Diamondbacks and Mariners. He pitched six times with Triple-A Tacoma in the last two weeks, allowing four runs in eight innings.
Bowman has experienced ups and downs in Triple-A, with a solid showing in April for the Twins' affiliate but struggling with a 5-run (4 earned) performance with 18 strikeouts and 3 walks in 16 Triple-A frames. His major league stats show a different story.
Despite not having a long-term stint in the majors for a while, Bowman put up a good performance with the Yankees' top affiliate last year, hinting at his potential. It is expected that he will secure another minor league deal promptly.
