Nick Robertson, a 26-year-old right-handed pitcher, has been claimed by the Jays from the Cardinals despite struggling with a 6.49 ERA over 34.2 major league innings.
Though he has a 7.27 ERA in Triple-A this year, Robertson possesses impressive velocity, throwing 95-98 mph, along with a changeup and slider.
At 6'6" and 265lb, Robertson's physical stature is imposing, and he has two option years left, which might appeal to the Jays.
To accommodate this waiver claim, the Jays will have to DFA a player from their 40-man roster.
