Commissioner Rob Manfred Searching For Alternatives To MLB Salary Cap
Briefly

The spending habits of the Los Angeles Dodgers have sparked criticism from various factions in baseball, including other owners and fanbases. This resentment may influence future collective bargaining negotiations, increasing the likelihood of discussions about a salary cap. Despite the backlash, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred argues there are multiple solutions to the issue and opposes a salary cap as the sole remedy. While Manfred's tenure has seen controversies, such as the Astros scandal, he also achieved successes, particularly with recent rule changes that increased attendance.
Manfred indicated he does not think a cap is the only sufficient remedy his owners could pursue during collective bargaining in 2026, however. 'I am a huge believer in the idea that there are always multiple solutions to a particular set of concerns,' he said.
His decisions with the Houston Astros cheating scandal, fiasco surrounding the Athletics moving out of Oakland, and a lockout during the 2021-2022 season are the great failures of Manfred's time as commissioner.
The rules changes he oversaw, which initially had more than its fair share of critics, have been an unquestionable triumph. It has directly led to a growth in attendance for two consecutive years, the first time that's been done since 2011 and 2012.
