""I feel like I'm at my best when I'm in center,""
""If I have to go to the corner, I'll go to the corner.""
""When I was in center, it was less on my body than the corners," Trout said. "To be honest, in right field I felt I was running a lot. Talking to some other outfielders and they're saying that they feel the same way sometimes, center is less on your legs. I just feel ... confident in center.""
""It's disappointing," Trout said. "I wanted to run it back with all the guys.""
Mike Trout prefers returning to center field and believes center field is less taxing on his legs than corner outfield positions. Trout played 130 games last season, his most since 2019, but began the year starting 22 of the first 29 games in right field before a knee injury sidelined him for a month. He returned as a designated hitter and finished with 26 home runs and a .232 batting average, his lowest in a 400-at-bat season. Trout was a center fielder for 11 consecutive seasons earlier in his career. Conversations with new manager Kurt Suzuki have included the idea of a return to center. Trout will skip the World Baseball Classic because of insurance issues despite interest in playing again.
