Former NFL player Chris Kluwe was arrested while protesting a politically charged plaque at a Huntington Beach City Council meeting, leading to his termination as a high school football coach. Kluwe, known for his outspoken views, argued that the plaque's reference to Trump's campaign slogan was inappropriate for a public library setting, which should remain non-political. After delivering a passionate speech and engaging in civil disobedience, he was removed by police. Following the incident, Edison High School fired Kluwe, citing excessive media attention surrounding him as the reason.
Kluwe stated, "We want to honor the library. We want there to be a plaque, but we don't want MAGA on it because the library isn't supposed to be political."
Kluwe compared the MAGA movement to Nazism during his speech, emphasizing the need for peaceful civil disobedience in defending non-political spaces.
Following an emotional protest at a council meeting, Kluwe was arrested and subsequently fired from his coaching position due to the controversy surrounding his actions.
Edison High School cited the attention surrounding Kluwe as the reason for his termination, stating, "there was too much attention on him, so they had to let him go."
